Week in Guangzhou-Dongguan Dec 2009
Coming in from Guangzhou where I spent just a couple of days, admittedly very restful days, I didn't know what to expect from Dongguan, apart from being very famous for prostitution (the best in China I hear with something for everyone and every taste). I found out that my friend's family lived in a rural setting and these next pics are from his neighbourhood:
I was lucky enough for my friend's dad and cousin to take me around some of the few places of interest in the unexciting city of Dongguan:
This is my friend's dad, who took time off work just to show me around (all day!!!).
The next pics are from attractions we visited including a world heritage site home to a museum dedicated to a key actor in the opium war, a hugely famous Chinese partisan and soldier that contributed a lot to the Chinese struggle against Western forces. Unfortunately I can't remember his name, I shall look it up....
The following pics & video were taken along the riverside where one can find another war museum precisely where the Chinese resisted enemy navy forces navigating upstream of the Pearl River. An elevated bridge was constructed over the river and is a very busy channel for goods into and out of the Guangdong province (one of China's industrial powerhouses, if not the largest):
Here some random videos I shot whilst staying at Xiao Li's place:
